Muy queridos amigos y familia extendida de los Tompkins:
Con tristeza por la partida, pero a su vez con corazones muy agradecidos por todas las bendiciones y el tiempo compartidos, el 23 de Febrero de 2025 falleció en Babs, nuestra Emily! Emily McCann de Tompkins (o Millicent como fue conocida en sus años jóvenes).
El Viernes 28 de Febrero, en la Iglesia Anglicana de San Salvador de Belgrano, tuvimos la oportunidad de reunimos como familia, amigos y su comunidad a rendir un sentido homenaje hacia Emily y lo que significó para cada uno, celebrando agradecidos su compromiso de fe y acción, que tocó la vida de tantas personas a lo largo de sus días. Y dimos gracias a Dios por ese testimonio.
En estos días, varias personas se han acercado a nosotras preguntando si había alguna forma de manifestar su cariño y agradecimiento por la vida de Emily y por su tarea y amistad de tantos años, y estamos solicitando al ABCC ayudarnos con una colecta, que pudiera mostrar nuestro agradecimiento en el compromiso de tomar la posta que nos deja, apoyando específicamente y por única vez en esta instancia a dos proyectos que estaban muy cerca de su corazón.

Dos organizaciones que continúan su legado de servicio y apoyo a quienes más lo necesitan.
Mas sobre Emily Tompkins:
Nacida en Buenos Aires en 1931, vivió en Santa Elena, ya que su padre trabajaba en la fábrica de Bovril. Santa Elena siempre estuvo muy presente en sus recuerdos. A los 11 años, y tras el fallecimiento de su padre, se mudó junto con sus dos hermanas y madre a la casa materna llamada “La Choza” en Quilmes. Fue maestra y enseñó en el Quilmes High School y también de forma particular en Buenos Aires. Conoció a Norman, nacido en Misión Chaqueña de padres misioneros, ex -alumno de St. George’s College y en ese momento hijo del Rector de la Iglesia Anglicana de Todos los Santos de Quilmes.
Comenzaron sus vidas de casados en 1955 en Lima, Perú, por el trabajo de Norman en Dunlop. Dos de nosotras, Marina y Mónica, nacimos en Lima. De ahí en adelante vivimos en el exterior: Yakarta en Indonesia y Kingston en Jamaica, para regresar en 1961 a Buenos Aires donde nació Cora, la menor. En 1964 nos mudamos a Bilbao, al norte de España, durante 15 años. Esto marcó profundamente nuestras vidas. Pero para ellos siempre estuvo el deseo latente de regresar a Buenos Aires, lo que eventualmente ocurrió en Diciembre 1979.
Como familia nos congregamos en la Iglesia Anglicana de San Salvador de Belgrano, donde Emily se involucró en trabajo social de la comunidad y ayudó a organizar un Centro de Cuidado de Niños de hasta 2 años para madres trabajadoras en Flores; también organizaba eventos de recaudación de fondos para adultos mayores, ayudó a la comisión de BABS durante muchos años, y ella y Norman pasarían allí sus últimos años bajo el cuidado del equipo de BABS.
Fue una abuela maravillosa – otro rol que asumió con gran placer para sus tres nietos e hijos adicionales; disfrutó enormemente de estos días felices.
Emily fue una persona maravillosa, extremadamente adaptable, amigable y sumamente orientada hacia la comunidad. Su gran fe cristiana y amor al prójimo la hizo estar atenta a las necesidades del otro y esto la hizo sentirse muy feliz y privilegiada.
Por su influencia en la vida de las personas, de todos los ámbitos de la vida, siempre será recordada. Como familia extrañaremos profundamente su presencia, pero vivirá en nuestros corazones como un ser lleno de amor por el que estamos eternamente agradecidos. Compartir su vida ha sido un privilegio.

Dear Friends and Extended Tompkins Family,
With sadness at her passing, but at the same time with hearts full of gratitude for all the blessings and time shared, on February 23, 2025, our beloved Emily passed away at BABS. Emily Tompkins née McCann (or Millicent, as she was known in her younger years).
On Friday, February 28, at the Anglican Church of Saint Saviour's in Belgrano, we had the opportunity to gather as family, friends, and community to pay a heartfelt tribute to Emily and what she meant to each of us. We gratefully celebrated her commitment to faith and action, which touched the lives of so many throughout her days, and we gave thanks to God for her testimony.
In recent days, several people have reached out to us asking if there is a way to express their love and gratitude for Emily’s life, her work, and her years of friendship. In response, we are asking the ABCC to help us organize a collection as a way of showing our appreciation and commitment to carrying on the legacy she has left us. The funds will support, on a one-time basis, two projects that were very close to her heart.
The funds raised will be allocated to:
1. BABS – A retirement home for the Anglo-Argentine Community (www.babs.org.ar) – The place where she and Norman spent their final years together.

More About Emily Tompkins
Born in Buenos Aires in 1931, she lived in Santa Elena, where her father worked at the Bovril factory. Santa Elena always held a special place in her memories. At the age of 11, following her father’s passing, she moved with her two sisters and mother to her maternal home, "La Choza," in Quilmes. She became a teacher and taught at Quilmes High School as well as privately in Buenos Aires.
She met Norman, who was born in Misión Chaqueña to missionary parents, a former student of St. George’s College, and at the time, the son of the Rector of the All Saints Anglican Church in Quilmes.
They began their married life in 1955 in Lima, Peru, where Norman worked for Dunlop. Two of us, Marina and Mónica, were born in Lima. From there, we lived abroad: in Jakarta, Indonesia, and Kingston, Jamaica, before returning to Buenos Aires in 1961, where our youngest sister, Cora, was born. In 1964, we moved to Bilbao, in northern Spain, for 15 years—a time that deeply shaped our lives. But our parents always carried the desire to return to Buenos Aires, which finally happened in December 1979.
As a family, we became part of the Anglican Church of Saint Saviour's in Belgrano, where Emily became involved in social work within the community. She helped organize a daycare center for children up to two years old for working mothers in Flores. She also organized fundraising events for the elderly, supported BABS' board for many years, and she and Norman spent their final years there under the care of the BABS team.
She was a wonderful grandmother—another role she embraced with great joy for her three grandchildren and extended family. She cherished those happy days immensely.
Emily was an extraordinary person—highly adaptable, friendly, and deeply community-oriented. Her great Christian faith and love for others made her attentive to the needs of those around her, which brought her immense joy and fulfillment.
Because of the impact she had on people from all walks of life, she will always be remembered. As a family, we will deeply miss her presence, but she will live on in our hearts as a being full of love, for whom we are eternally grateful. It has been a privilege to share life with her.
